Yo, ho, ho…
Some say the word “rum” comes from “rumbullion”, a 17th century word for tumult or a great uproar. Others say it comes from the Dutch word “roemer” or large glass. We say they’re both right, particularly if you head over to the celebration called Taste of Rum on Saturday, March 9th at the Puerto Rico Convention Center.
What to expect
There will be rock and salsa music and more than 2,500 people are expected so it’s safe to assume a big, tumultuous party. There will be over 60 rum brands from Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and even the Pacific waiting to be sampled in your “roemer”. You can’t get any close to the definition of a great experience waiting to happen than this.
The 13th edition of Taste of Rum includes the Rum Congress. This is a series of educational seminars and tastings from 2 – 7 pm. The main event doors open at 5:30 pm for the VIP Ticket Holders and 7:00 pm for general admission. All tickets include free tastings and music. Food will be available for purchase.
Puerto Rico’s place in the Rum Universe
Puerto Rico is considered the Rum Capitol of the World because it’s the world’s largest producer. Bacardí and Don Q are the two largest distillers on Puerto Rico. Recently both have fully embraced the specialty rum market and have been putting out excellent aged rums. Every year there are more artisan and super premium rum distillers crafting excellent spirits.
