Spring break in Puerto Rico- daytime activities

Puerto Rico has a lot of things to do for fun on Spring Break, even when you’re on a budget. We’ve put together some quick suggestions to make the most out of your days in Puerto Rico.

Spring break in Puerto Rico
It’s easy to see why Isla Verde is a beach lovers dream destination

Beaches

All beaches in Puerto Rico are public and can be accessed by anyone. The only ones with hours of operation are the Balnearios or public beaches administered by the town. These are the only ones with lifeguards. If you see large waves, don’t go in. Currents and reefs can take you out to sea rather quickly.

There are more than 300 beaches all around the island that range from isolated gems to hang out spots. Here’s a list of the more popular metro beaches:

Balneario de Carolina– open Wed- Sun, 8am to 5pm. This long, crescent shaped public beach right next to the airport is well maintained and has showers, bathrooms and lifeguards. Some small eateries offer food and drink. Conditions, even when it’s rough are usually good for bathing. Parking is $5. Free admission. There a sailing center on the eastern end.

Isla Verde Beach– this is another very popular condominium and hotel lined sandy beach that’s bather friendly thanks to the protection of the outer reefs. There are chair and umbrella rentals. You can buy things to eat and drink in the businesses that line Isla Verde Ave.
