If you’re into sports, the BSN or Puerto Rico Superior Basketball league is an experience you shouldn’t miss. This local basketball league, founded in 1930, features high caliber competition and a fan base that is legendary. Historic rivalries abound and fans travel and make pilgrimages to every home and away game. Some franchises even rent buses for their supporters and hundreds will show up in mass to rival’s away games, even if they’re 3 hours away. The season begins in March and the playoffs will last into August.

The play is physical and the fans, energetic
The local basketball league has enjoyed renewed enthusiasm, particularly among the youth in recent years owing to the fact that many musical superstars have purchased or become team partners. Bad Bunny is part owner of the Santurce Cangrejeros and regularly shows up for games. Ozuna owns the Osos de Manatí and is also a fan. Even Lebron James has shown up to see what all the fuss is about.

The 12 team local basketball league uses a FIBA format and rules. All teams are mostly local players with 3 “imports” allowed per club. Many G-Leaguers, Euro League and former NBA stars such as DeMarcus Cousins, Jahlil Okafor, Brandon Knight, Chris Duarte, Danilo Gallinari, JaVale McGee, Hassan Whiteside, Noris Cole and many more have played a couple of seasons. A couple of BSN players also played a few seasons in the NBA and top Euro leagues such as JJ Barea, Carlos Arroyo, Butch Lee and more.

It’s a family tradition
There are many rivalries, some stretching back into the 50’s. Many times these games are sold out and the energy rather intense.
