Festival de las Flores in Aibonito
Aibonito Flower Festival
2023- June 30 to July 9
Get ready for a riot of color and to discover that amazing amount of flora that Puerto Rico offers during the Aibonito Flower Festival. This annual event held at the beginning of July features plants and flowers from both amateur and professional growers and greenhouses. Check out some amazing orchids in full bloom or marvel at some award winning bonsais made from tropical trees. You’ll also find plenty of local produce vendors and a great variety of artisans displaying their handicraft.
From just a simple celebration of flowering plants the Festival de las Flores or Flower Festival now features live music, plenty of local food options and even entertainment for the kids. For this 10 day festival weekends are the most popular times so if you can get there on a weekday you’ll definitely beat the crowds.
Aibonito is a small mountain town almost in the middle of the Island. The easiest way to get there is to take Highway 52 and then in Cayey take Route #1 and then Route 7722. The roads will get narrow and will wind around the mountain but the good news is that there’s a “lechonera” or roast pig restaurant on the route so you can try this Puerto Rican delicacy on your way there or back.
Unfortunately you can’t fly back with any plants because the US Department of Agriculture will confiscate them in your pre-flight screening but you’re more than welcome to bring back handcrafts and any other fun thing you might find at the Festival de las Flores in AIbonito.
