Arecibo once again hosts two back to back world class surfing events; the ALAS Global Tour Oct. 9-12 and WSL QS 4,000 Oct 14-18, 2026. La Marginal Surfing PRO, presented by the town of Arecibo and the mayor, Hon. Carlos R. Ramirez Irizarry will atract top, world class and local talent who will compete for World Surfing League Qualifying Points and qualifying points for the 2027 Pan Am Games along with $90K+ in prize money.
The perfect spot
The venue, right in the town of Arecibo, is the ideal spectator and competitive surfing spot. A long seaside promenade provides plenty of viewing opportunities and the surf spot is a close to shore reef break that can create great waves in just about any condition. More than 350 athletes are expected to participate in categories ranging from juvenile to open long board, short board and SUP in both male and female divisions. Prize money is divided equally among male and female athletes. Surfing starts each day at 8am and the last heat runs till 5pm.
There’s more to La Marginal Surfing PRO
This event has grown beyond an ordinary surf contest and now includes multiple events. Along with the surf action, you can enjoy live music Fri to Sun from 5pm to 11:30 every weekend. There will be food and drink kiosks available along with a group of local artisans. There are also great lunch and dinning spots just walking distance away in the town of Arecibo.
A growing event
The 2026 Marginal Surfing Pro has added 3 additional events for the 3rd 2026 event. An Arecibo Bay Crossing will have local long-distance swimmers competing for prize money on Oct 10th. An open air 3×3 basketball tournament will also be held Oct. 16-18 and the 17th will see a Canine 3K race in the late afternoon.
